Dark circles and puffy eyes

Dark circles have different causes: genetics, pigmentation, thin skin that shows blood vessels, or shadows from volume loss. An eye cream cannot change all of these, but it can make the area look smoother, fresher and better hydrated.

How to choose

Know what to expect

Hydration makes thin skin look plumper and lines softer. Shadows caused by pigment respond slowly to brightening ingredients and sun protection. Hollows and inherited darkness are better covered with concealer than with skincare.

Apply gently

The skin around your eyes is thinner than on the rest of your face. Pat a small amount along the orbital bone with your ring finger and keep products away from the lash line.

Morning puffiness

Fluid can collect overnight, especially after salty food or little sleep. A cool, light gel texture feels refreshing; puffiness usually settles during the morning.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really need an eye cream?

Not always. If your face moisturiser does not sting around the eyes, it can work there too. An eye cream is useful if you want a specific texture or a targeted ingredient for this area.

Can I use retinal around my eyes?

Only with a product made for the eye area, such as an eye serum with retinal. Start a few evenings a week and stop if the skin becomes red or flaky.

When should I see a doctor about dark circles or puffiness?

If puffiness or darkness appears suddenly, on one side only, or together with itching or swelling, have it checked by your GP.
