Skincare with ceramides
Ceramides are lipids that occur naturally in the outer layer of your skin and help it hold on to moisture. Creams and serums with ceramides are a familiar choice for dry, tight or sensitive skin.

How to choose
Why ceramides matter
Together with cholesterol and fatty acids, ceramides form the “mortar” between skin cells. Skincare with ceramides helps to replenish that layer, so skin feels softer and less tight.
Which product type?
For very dry skin a cream is the obvious choice. With combination skin you can choose a lighter emulsion or serum and add a cream only where you need it.
Read the label
Ceramides appear in the INCI list as names such as Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP or Ceramide EOP. Japanese brands sometimes use ceramide-like ingredients, which we list separately.
Frequently asked questions
Are ceramides suitable for oily skin?
Yes. Oily skin can be dehydrated too; choose a light gel or emulsion with ceramides.
Can I combine ceramides with exfoliating acids?
Yes, and that is often a sensible pairing: use the acid first and a ceramide cream afterwards.
Ceramides or hyaluronic acid?
They complement each other: hyaluronic acid binds water, while ceramides help the skin barrier hold on to it. Many creams contain both.
