Skincare guide

The Korean skincare routine, step by step

You do not need ten steps to get the benefits of Korean skincare. This guide explains each step, what it adds and how to build a simple morning and evening routine.

1. Oil cleanser (evening)

Dissolves sunscreen and makeup. Massage onto dry skin, emulsify with water, rinse.

2. Water-based cleanser

A mild gel or foam cleans the skin itself. In the morning this may be your only cleanse.

3. Toner

A hydrating toner adds a first layer of moisture; an exfoliating toner is used a few times a week.

4. Essence or serum

The targeted step: hydration, an even tone or calm skin. One or two products are plenty.

5. Moisturiser

Seals in the previous steps. Lighter for oily skin, richer for dry skin.

6. Sunscreen (morning)

The final and most important morning step. Use SPF 30 or higher every day.

A simple routine to start

Morning: cleanser, serum, moisturiser, sunscreen. Evening: oil cleanser, cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser. Add masks, eye cream or exfoliation once the basics feel natural.

Frequently asked questions

How long before I see results?

Hydration you notice straight away; for changes in tone or texture, give a routine four to eight weeks.

Should I introduce everything at once?

No. Add one new product at a time, about a week apart, so you know how your skin reacts.

Does the order really matter?

Roughly: thinnest to thickest, finishing with sunscreen in the morning. That helps each product spread well.
