Skincare for blemish-prone skin

Spots are common and rarely a sign of poor care. A gentle routine with a mild cleanser, one targeted product and a light moisturiser helps keep pores clear without irritating your skin. Below you will find options from Korea, Japan and China.

How to choose

Keep the routine simple

Cleanse morning and evening with a mild, low-pH cleanser, add one targeted product such as a BHA toner or an azelaic acid serum, and finish with a light moisturiser and daytime sunscreen. Several strong actives at once tend to irritate rather than speed things up.

Ingredients worth knowing

Salicylic acid (BHA) is oil-soluble and works inside the pore. Azelaic acid is gentle enough for many sensitive skins. Centella and heartleaf are popular calming extracts in Korean formulas. Hydrocolloid pimple patches cover a spot so you leave it alone.

Give it time

Skin renews itself slowly: judge a new product after six to eight weeks of consistent use. Introduce one product at a time so you can tell what helps and what does not.

Frequently asked questions

Does moisturiser make blemishes worse?

A light, non-greasy moisturiser usually helps, because skin that is dried out by strong products becomes irritated more easily. Gel and fluid textures suit blemish-prone skin well.

Can I squeeze spots?

Better not: squeezing can push inflammation deeper and leave marks. A pimple patch protects the spot while it heals.

When should I see a doctor?

See your GP or a dermatologist if spots are painful or deep, leave scars or affect how you feel, or if nothing improves after about three months of consistent care. Cosmetics are not a treatment for acne as a medical condition.
